Brief Introduction
In many ways, the development of modern commerce and industry has epitomised the neglect and exploitation of our natural neighbourhood
that comes with abstract economic and power-seeking value systems. Market and political ‘forces’ become ‘drivers’ of the economic
globalisation of consumerism, unfair trade and voyeuristic tourism that focus more on desire and status than natural need.
Inclusional values give priority to enhancing human well-being through accommodating our human needs for life, love and comfort within
the context of sustaining the diversity and vitality of our natural neighbourhood for all to share and participate in. These values do
not require us to abandon all that we have learned and invented through ‘civilisation’, but they may bring more discernment of what
truly brings quality of life in the long run, not just short-term profit for an economically ‘successful’ elite. As we come to
appreciate what these values mean, so new, less mercenary motivation and inventiveness may be encouraged, which harmonise with rather
than contradict natural energy flow.
